List of NFL Teams That Have Always Fail to Win a Super Bowl

There are currently 12 NFL teams that have never won a Super Bowl:

  1. Arizona Cardinals
  2.  Atlanta Falcons
  3.  Buffalo Bills
  4.  Carolina Panthers
  5.  Cincinnati Bengals
  6.  Cleveland Browns
  7.  Detroit Lions
  8.  Houston Texans
  9.  Los Angeles Chargers
  10.  Minnesota Vikings
  11.  Tennessee Titans
  12.  San Diego Chargers (Note: The Chargers technically won a Super Bowl as the San Diego Chargers in 1995, but the team has since moved to Los Angeles and has not won a Super Bowl as the Los Angeles Chargers.)

It’s worth noting that several of these teams have come close to winning a Super Bowl, with some even making it to the championship game but falling short.

Here’s a brief overview of each NFL team that has never won a Super Bowl:

  1. Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals have been in the NFL since 1920 (originally as the Chicago Cardinals) and have never won a Super Bowl. They made it to the big game once, in 2009, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  2.  Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons have been in the NFL since 1966 and have yet to win a Super Bowl. They’ve made two appearances in the championship game, the first in 1999 (XXXIII), where they lost to the Denver Broncos, and the second in 2017 (LI), where they famously blew a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots.
  3.  Buffalo Bills: The Bills have been in the NFL since 1960 and are known for making it to four straight Super Bowls from 1991-1994 but losing each one. They’ve never won a Super Bowl.
  4.  Carolina Panthers: The Panthers have been in the NFL since 1995 and have made it to two Super Bowls, the first in 2003 (XXXVIII), where they lost to the New England Patriots, and the second in 2016 (50) where they lost to the Denver Broncos.
  5.  Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals have been in the NFL since 1968 and have yet to win a Super Bowl. They’ve made two appearances in the championship game, the first in 1981 (XVI), where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers, and the second in 1988 (XXIII), where they lost to the same team.
  6.  Cleveland Browns: The Browns have been in the NFL since 1946 (originally as an All-America Football Conference charter member) and have never won a Super Bowl. They made it to the championship game several times before the Super Bowl era but have yet to make it to the big game since joining the NFL.
  7.  Detroit Lions: The Lions have been in the NFL since 1930 and have yet to win a Super Bowl. They’ve made it to the championship game three times (1935, 1952, and 1953) but have yet to make it back since.
  8.  Houston Texans: The Texans have been in the NFL since 2002 and have never won a Super Bowl. They’ve made the playoffs several times but have yet to advance past the Divisional Round.
  9.  Los Angeles Chargers: The Chargers have been in the NFL since 1960 (initially as the Los Angeles Chargers before moving to San Diego) and have only won one AFL championship (1963) before the Super Bowl era. They made it to the Super Bowl once, in 1995 (XXIX) as the San Diego Chargers, but lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
  10.  Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings have been in the NFL since 1961 and have made it to four Super Bowls (IV, VIII, IX, and XI) but lost all of them. They are the only team to have played in four Super Bowls without winning one.
  11.  Tennessee Titans: The Titans have been in the NFL since 1960 (initially as the Houston Oilers before moving to Tennessee) and have made it to one Super Bowl in 2000 (XXXIV), where they lost to the St. Louis Rams by a single yard.
  12.  San Diego Chargers: The Chargers technically won a Super Bowl in 1995 (XXIX) as the San Diego Chargers but have not won one as the Los Angeles Chargers since moving in 2017.
